New Hydrotherapy
A trendy fad, or much more? Hydrotherapy has been proven to assist in the recovery of post-op dogs and in the treatment of joint and arthritic conditions.
The benefits of warm water exercise have been known for centuries, the Greeks and later the Romans built exotic hydro spa facilities in Europe and even in New Zealand Rotorua became world famous for “taking the waters” and is still providing pain relief for many of us today.

So, Hydrotherapy has been proven to assist in the recovery and welfare of us humans then why not for mans best friend the Dog.
There are two main options for treatment in the market, the Swimming Pool or the Underwater Treadmill.
Lets look at the swimming pool first. The first issue may be the rather large body of water which may overwhelm the dog. The next issue will be access which is usually achieved by fitting a life jacket to your dog, then attaching a lifting harness, the dog is then attached to a hoist and lifted from the ground and hoisted up over the pool. The next step is to lower the dog into the water!
Not the most natural of situations. The dog is then encouraged to swim around the pool or against swim jets.
Now lets review the “Hydro Physio” Hydrotherapy Under water treadmill. As you can see from the photos its an all glass see through chamber. The dog simply walks up a small ramp and enters via a glass door. The treadmill speed can be set and infinitely adjusted to cater for small Chihuahuas to huge Great Danes. Warm water now enters the chamber to the preset level and your dog is now walking in warm water. The water level is adjusted to the needs of the patient providing extra buoyancy for post-op recovery or knee high for a good work out.
As we can see the Hydro Physio Hydrotherapy option is stress free and far kinder to your dog. That’s why after researching overseas we chose the Hydro Physio.
Hydrotherapy is just what the doctor (vet) ordered when it comes to post-op recovery after cruciate ligament repair, hip dysplasia, luxating patella, spinal injuries and in the treatment of joint and arthritic conditions. If your dog is receiving Rymadil, or being treated by VSG for joint issues or if your Vet has diagnosed pain relief we will be happy to discuss treatment and work in with them.
