The traditional Dog Boarding Kennel has been around for a very long time in New Zealand and has served communities in all sectors, however not all pet owners want to put their best friend into a cold, concrete, box with bars in a semi outside location.

This is why Pets In The City was created. We knew how we like to treat our animals and figured many other pet owners would be similar and want only the best for their “family member” while they are away enjoying a nice holiday too. After a trip to the USA to visit a couple of Dog Boarding Kennels (USA Style) we knew that a luxury facility, in an easy to get to location, with dedicated staff on site 365 days a year and 24 hours a day would be very popular and we were not wrong. Based on a popular US model of luxury and comfort Pets In The City opened in 2009 and was an instant success.

Dog Boarding Kennels

Convenient Central Dog Kennels are very popular plus alot of the clients see the other benefits of using Pets In The City such as our dog grooming, our dog training, hydrotherapy treatment for the older clients or the ones with stiff joints or recovering from an accident plus of course our world famous animal chiropractor Kirsten.

Going on short break?

Want peace of mind that your dog is well looked after while you relax?
When choosing dog boarding kennels the main selection is to inspect for cleanliness in the facility and the most convenient way to achieve this is to examine the floor and the walls to check if the surface of the reception is coated in a non-permeable product such as epoxy that is easily cleaned and resistant to bacteria and viruses.

Many dog kennels have coarse surfaces that are impossible to clean and therefore present a risk to your dog. These surfaces are difficult to clean efficiently and harbour nasty viruses. There are more factors than just cleanliness when it comes to selecting a Boarding kennel for your pet.

In fact we don’t like using the word “Boarding Kennel” and instead we chose to call our facility a “Pet Hotel”

Here are some regular questions we get asked daily at Pets in The City Auckland.

1. Are boarding kennels good if they are housing both for cats and dogs at the same time?

This question gets raised alot and I guess the main reason is that cats are frightened of dogs!. However in a properly built dog boarding kennel, both species do not come in contact with each other and therefore the stress on cats in particular is removed completely. Also we have noticed over the years that cats when in company of other cats relax very quickly even in strange environments.

2. At dog boarding kennels, are there people that sleep at the kennel over night to watch the dogs?

Yes the staff work a 24 hour shift to ensure the dogs and cats are all well cared for and having someone on call 24 hours a day means in the unlikely event that your pet gets ill he/she will always be cared for correctly and promptly.

3. How much is a good rate per night for a dog at boarding kennels?

In running a boarding kennel the overheads are considerable. We have staff on site 24 hours a day, huge food bills, large electrical bills (the machine runs all day with blankets, rugs, and towels), and many other expenses. The daily rate reflects these expenses and if you take into consideration the care your pet receives and the fact you can relax knowing your dog is safe then it is money well spent.

4. How long before boarding a dog do you need kennel cough injections.

All animals need a current vaccination certificate (including cats) for kennel cough and flu for cats. It is advisable to maintain this regime regardless of using kennels for the safety sake of your pet.More details here at the kennel association

5. How much time will your dog have in the exercise area and how much supervision will they have if they are with other dogs?

Your dog will have alot of exercise time every day and will only be in his or her quarters at night to sleep. All dogs are supervised when at play with other dogs by trained professional dog handlers. The dogs can be walked outside as well (additional fee)

6. Given the amount of room your dog has in their kennel and the amount of time in their exercise area will your dog need extra walks and is there an additional cost for this?

Your dog won’t need additional walks as the play rooms tend to wear the dogs out anyway however a lot of owners like to give their dogs an additional piece of exercise such as an external walk. There is an additional fee for this and it is used to give the dog some diversity.

The very best way of choosing your dog boarding kennels is recommendation from a organisation such as the kennel association who has inspected the kennels and classified them. This way you know the facility also met the government requirements for hygiene. At Pets In The City we are inspected regularly and our facility exceeds the rigorous requirements every time.

Thanks for choosing Pets In The City for your next dog boarding experience and we welcome you to our facility at any time

What to look for in a Dog Kennel.
Going on holiday? Want reassurance that your dog is well cared for while you holiday?
When choosing dog boarding kennels the main priority is to inspect the cleanliness in the premises and the easiest way to achieve this is to view the facility to check if the surface of the wall is painted in a non-permeable product such as two pack paint that is easily cleaned and resistant to bacteria and viruses.

Cleaning plays a very important role in dog boarding and boarding kennels and if not done correctly with the correct cleaning products then animals can start to get sick.

Many animal boarding facilities have rough surfaces that are hard to clean and therefore present a risk to your dog. These surfaces are difficult to clean thoroughly . There are more factors than just appearance when it comes to selecting Dog kennels for your pet.

At Pets In The City we have the latest building substrates that are non permeable (can not be penetrated) which means the cleaning process is much easier and it ensures your dog is not exposed to nasty viruses and bacteria. We use the latest and best sanitising products designed specifically for animals and dog kennels. At Pets In The City we do understand that looking after your dog is very important to you and we get alot of questions from concerned dog and cat owners.

Dog Boarding Kennels

We thought the easiest way to address the concerns of pet owners looking for boarding kennels was to list down some of the questions we get asked daily at Pets in The City Auckland.

1. Are boarding kennels good if they are both for cats and dogs at the same one?

This question gets raised alot and I guess the main reason is that cats are frightened of dogs!.
4. How long before boarding a dog do you need kennel cough vaccination.

It is advisable to maintain this regime regardless of whether or not you will be using dog kennels in the future for the safety sake of your pet.

The very best way of choosing your dog boarding kennels is recommendation from a organisation kennel association who has inspected the kennels and classified them. Pets In The City is approved by Asure Quality who provide dog kennels with national and international regulatory programmes .

We welcome you at Pets in The City, Pet Hotel and Doggy Daycare Centre

Our luxury dog kennels are exactly what your dog needs next holiday time. Located close to the motorway and with plenty of parking available, our luxurious, USA styled indoor dog kennels make dropping your beloved hound off a simple task.

No more trips out to rural areas over muddy roads, no waiting for facilities to open while you could be driving to your destination, and no cold, damp dog boarding kennels for your beloved to sit in all day while you enjoy your lovely holiday or short break.

Our dog kennels (pet hotel actually) are open all day and all year for your convenience and offer warm, dry clean dog boarding and cattery.

Hours

7am till 6pm for
doggie day care.

7am till 7 pm for boarding 7 days a week.

Where do you go in Auckland to find luxury dog kennels that are indoors, warm and have staff on site 24 hours a day and 365 days a year? You go to Pets In The City.

Also another consideration is our dog kennel prices are similar to the traditional outside dog kennels that are cold and damp and not the ideal place for your beloved family member. For a little bit extra you can give your pet a fantastic holiday also and let him or her enjoy our amazing facilities. Find out where our dog and cat boarding facility is here.

In fact calling us a dog kennel is not accurate. We are a Pet hotel and have excellent facilities that make your dogs stay a memorable one. Our accomodation is based on The USA style where luxury and comfort is paramount. For example we have Sky TV, proper comfortable beds, dog treats on the pillow upon arrival, maid and cleaning service for the rooms and so on.
While your dog is at our dog kennel he or she can also enjoy our other services. You can get your dog groomed while you they are here, get dog hydrotherapy, dog training, dog daycare, dog boarding, and dog walks.

Does this look like a traditional dog kennel to you?

Dog Kennels and Dog Hotel

We have turned the phrase dog kennel into a new phrase. The new term is “Pet Hotel” and we as pet lovers feel that animals also deserve to have a nice break and be well cared for. To enjoy the use of a luxury hotel for your dog with full time care and love and attention from our dedicated petcare staff

So next holiday turn to Pets in The City for your dog and get the very best dog kennels in Auckland for your dog

Have a look a to see what our dog kennels look like

We also have a cattery here as well which is of similar standard and gives your moggy the very best cattery boarding as well

Did you know that the first recorded pet boarding facility was in the middle ages in England where a local peasant used to mind the hunters dogs as a full time job. No sure if those dog kennels had SKY TV …….but interesting to note that the person who cared for the dogs had compassion and empathy for animals…………….just like us.

A great dog kennel has excellent staff that really care about the guests and that is what you will find at Pets In The City.

Contact us now to book for your next holiday
